General Information
How does it work?
First, log into your online banking and then download/export (as CSV) your account transactions (say, your chequings or credit card).
You can then import that file you downloaded into Warren and then you can visualize and manage your transactions and net worth!
What is a CSV file?
CSV stands for “Comma-Separated Values”. It’s simply just a formatted text file.
It’s like a .txt or .doc file but each line is like a row in a excel sheet and each columns are separated by commas (hence “CS” in CSV).
What if I want to review my account both in my desktop and mobile (or any other devices)?
You can do so by saving your progress and downloading your .wrn file and then sharing this file to your phone.
This way you can import the same .wrn file into your phone!
You can share your .wrn file to your phone by using things like Slack, AirDrop, Google Drive, emailing yourself, etc.
Privacy and Security
How are you handling the safety and privacy of my data?
We are glad you asked and we’re proud to answer that!
Your data is very secure. More specifically, it’s as secure as your laptop/device you’re using this on.
With Warren, none of your data actually gets sent to the internet, or in any server. Everything happens in your browser.
You can quickly check this in two ways: you can either turn off your wifi and then import your transactions (and then you’ll see it will still work), or
you’ll notice that if you refresh/close your window/session, your data gets cleared out immediately.
We’re not even asking you for any of your personally identifiable information at all.
This is also why it’s important that you download your progress after importing many transactions so you won’t have to redo them all over again each time.
This “downloaded file” goes straight to your computer and you can save it in there locally until you want to resume your session with Warren later.
Your entire data is stored in your computer so it’s up to you to secure your computer.
Where does my data go / where is it stored?
As mentioned, nowhere on the internet if that’s what you’re asking. All activity is stored in your browser, in that session. Refresh it and it’s instantly gone.
This is also why it’s important that you download your progress after importing many transactions so you won’t have to redo everything all over again each time.
If you decide to download your progress, that text file is then stored only in your computer.
Importing
Can I import multiple bank accounts in one session?
Yes, it’s designed to be used that way!
Don’t forget to save before you leave so you won’t have to redo them again later.
Your transactions will be labeled accordingly.
Can I import multiple transactions from multiple bank institutions?
Yes, it’s designed to be used that way as well!
Don’t forget to save before you leave so you won’t have to redo them again later.
Your transactions will be labeled accordingly.
Reporting
Can I set the time range in the reports page to be more than “the last 12 months”?
Not yet in the current version. We definitely plan and we are excited to build that feature so users can freely indicate which time ranges they’re interested in viewing.
