There are names that are spelled a certain way and I’m sure you tried your best to figure out how it’s pronounced. Most of this words/names are actually (north) american and just when you think you(or even I) had it, you get this article. Let’s start:
- Geoff – I’ve heard some–and I am guilty–of trying to pass this as /jof/ . it’s not. It’s simply pronounced as Jeff…as in jeffrey
- Tucson (as in Hyundai Tucson) – I thought /tuck-sun/ , it’s /too-son/
- Plymouth (car) – I thought literally ply + mouth. Nope. /pli-mooth/ . yup.
